Whoa.
Been a while since I wrote anything. My bad, I've been slacking off. I don't have any excuses this time.
I'm going to talk about my pathetic generation.
We, as a group, are uneducated, unable to think for ourselves, impressionable, and insecure.
Almost nobody I know that is my age is educated or strong minded enough to develop an opinion of their own, nor secure enough to defend it (or even try) upon challenge.
Merely saying something doesn't make it true. Often in my, err, discussions with my peers they will make statements that I may challenge or ask for substantiation on and they are utterly unable to do so. It doesn't help that the majority of the time people are, as I've written, both unable to distinguish between opinion and fact and unable to see when I'm talking about phenomena (such as racism) on a very large scale vs individual events.
Another issue I have with my peers is their tendency to devolve to personal attacks in lieu of a true argument. It happens with almost everyone my age I've ever had a real discussion with. Apparently the fact that I have a ton of background facts and examples to prove my points and I refuse to change my stance without a lot of convincing information means I'm (pick your own negative adjective). Today alone I've been accused of being arrogant or some such; it was a long insult so I can't really break it down into a few adjectives.
There's no quicker way to lose my respect than to argue with emotion rather than logic. The result is that I respect almost none of my peers. It doesn't help that they, for the most part, get their opinions and views from pop culture and an incredibly narrow view of the world. ...And young folk like me wonder why nobody takes us seriously?
You can trace all this crap back to public schools, but that's a whole 'nother thing.
