Thoughts.. again
Yankees won. 4-3 is a little closer than I like in a game that doesn't go into fun extra innings, but a win is a win. Johnson didn't look as solid as usual.
Braves lost. I wouldn't mind, but they lost to the Rockies! The bloody Rockies! Argh. It'll be pretty sad if they lose the series because the Rockies are one of the worst teams in baseball right now, whereas the Braves are about tied for 3rd (with the Cardinals). Obviously it doesn't mean as much right now because they aren't playing interleague yet and it's not even 1/4 through the season, but still. Blah. The Rockies!
So I'm watching this B movie on Scifi called Within the Rock. It's one of those asteroid gonna hit earth movies, low budget though. They describe it was a moon; magically this moon has Earth-like gravity and they have 'oxygen generators' which can keep breathable pressure without sealing off the caverns or whatever. They show poor knowledge of physical, biological, chemical, and mechanical science in this 'science fiction' film. I like the cast, though; the demo chick was hot before she died and the doctor chick is cute. Xander Berkeley, one of my favorite supporting actors, is in it and so is Brian Krauss of Charmed fame (he plays Leo). If you ignore the poor science and such it's actually not a bad movie so far. Though they certainly killed off too many of the lovable cast members, if you ask me (Krauss and the demo chick both died... WTF? There were much better ways to handle it, especially with the fledging romance between them.) Oh hey, what a lame ending. Totally impossible. I'm not even going to analyze it...
What is it about commercial writers these days? Now, about half of them I actually enjoy watching because they're funny, but the rest are just fucking annoying. Or gross. The vagisil commercial? 'Feminine itch and odor' is not something I want to hear about, quite frankly, and it's hardly the worst commercial out there. Any commercial with animals running around talking or singing like young kids, or adults for that matter... ANNOYING. Babies singing or talking like adults? ANNOYING. I'm not anti-children, now, but holy Christ do I hate those commercials. I also don't enjoy commercials for long lasting erections; I don't need help with my dick. I know I'm not the target of most of the commercials that piss me off, but they're just irritating.
I wish I'd played baseball as a young'un. Realistically I was better suited for my chosen running sports, but I love baseball and I really wish I could play somehow.
I wonder if gangbangers actually shoot waving the pistol around and holding it sideways and stuff. If they do, it's amazing they ever hit anything... probably the only reason people ever die is this stuff happens at powder burn range. I've always wanted to try shooting with the handgun sideways, but every time I go shooting I forget to do it. I know I'll be able to hit my target, if not incredibly accurately, simply because I'm a moderately talented point shooter, but I'm really curious how the recoil will hit me.
Boy, pizza ovens are expensive. I figured a nice countertop pizza oven would run maybe 250 bucks, but all the ones I could find--and they would only cook like a 13" pizza--were around $1000. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right spots, but Damn!
I get a bunch of knives tomorrow. I ordered some cheap Opinel collar locking folders with thin carbon steel blades from Lee Valley (apparently the warehouse is only a short drive away, which is really cool) and the four knives I wrote of before from the Knife Center should be coming as well. That is unless the package and the single knife that was in stock before, the SRK, weigh 2.3 pounds... highly doubtful. At least two knives are in that package. No clue when my Anzas are coming, nor if they even shipped. Ugh, those are the ones I want the most!
Why do people say Keanu Reeves is a bad actor? I like him, and while he doesn't have the depth of the greater actors of this day, he's by no means untalented.
Another question... why are so many people so willing to trot out the racism accusations when they don't have a cogent argument of their own? I was reading on an IMDB thread about the new Jet Li movie Unleashed and I ran across an indictment of Rap-fu movies (heh, props for the excellent name).
Rap-fu is a movie either based around the rap culture and including a martial artist or a martial artist teamed up with... a rapper. Think Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, stuff like that. One poster, who evidently calibrates his cultural barometer by MTV and black comedians--while lacking an understanding of tongue in cheek and self depracating humors--went on for about 20 posts about the white man keepin the brotha down. He kept saying how we honkeys was jealous of the black culture's minority connections, or something. I only skimmed after his first few posts, mostly because he was functionally illiterate. It was suggested at first that he was stirring up shit to mess with the board, but it was obvious he really believed what he was saying, which is scary. I suspect him to be a white teenager, actually, a 'wigger' if you will. Sigh. I guess he didn't like a rational evaluation of his favorite mediocre Rap-fu movies, and as such had to trot out the racism crap. No doubt someone reading this will come up with the notion that I'm racist and black hating, which is total shit. I can't even wrap my late night mind around this phenomenon, which means the whole last paragraph makes little sense. Sorry. I'll write a real post or two about my thoughts on racism, race baiting, and reality in the near future.
Back to baseball... why does Ichiro Suzuki have his first name on the back of his jersey? Kind of weird, if you ask me. Ichiro Suzuki is a Mariners player, if you don't know; he's a huge Japanese star, though not as big as Matsui. Came over a few years back. Very quick, and small for an MLB player--smaller than me, and I'm smaller than 98% of the players on the field--which isn't that important but interesting anyway. Offensively he's a great baserunner and good at getting hits to begin with, though lacking in power. His career batting average is .339, and last year he batted .372 in 161 games. Wow. Very impressive. Defensively an outfielder, I believe he plays RF, but he might be CF; I'm not sure and way too lazy to check right now. Okay, I checked to get his batting stats, and it's RF. An interesting fact about Ichiro is his father trained him from the start to bat left handed; he's naturally a RH hitter, but from a young age he batted LH and it really shows. I'm tempted to somehow watch the Mariners just to see this guy play.
Okay, that's about it this fine late night. 2:07 AM = time to lean back and enjoy a movie on TBS.
