Some thoughts
The Yankees lost again last night. That game would have been much better blogging material than the one I actually did, but I was exhausted from about 2 pm to 11 pm or so when I finally got to sleep and I just didn't have the energy. Also, it started slow; if it was interesting from the start I might have hit some Jolt and blogged it, but by the time the third inning rolled in I was too out of it to care.
I didn't get any knives today, so I still have six out in limbo. I did get some presents from Santa (the delivery guy), though: my Norton bench stones and my Rock River Arms 9mm mag-well block.
As for the knives, I found out that three of the four I ordered from Knife Center (not the Anza ones) are on backorder, with the SRK the only one in stock, so they might just wait to ship it all together. I don't remember if I had an option to choose on that. No clue when the Anzas will arrive; I don't recall which shipping option I chose and I have no tracking number. Hopefully soon.
I ordered the Norton stones from MidwayUSA, and they're pretty exciting. Most expensive chunks of rock I've ever bought, that's for sure, but they should be worth it. I had wanted to buy 10x2x1 inch stones, but I settled on 6x2x1s when I couldn't find any decent larger ones for a good price. I bought single medium and fine grit stones with two dual stones, one in coarse/super fine and the other in medium/fine.
I figure I'll bring the medium/fine with me when I travel rather than two stones and I won't use the coarse/super fine stone enough to justify buying individual ones. If I'm wrong I can just buy them in the future, but the super fine stone especially was twice as expensive as the other single grit stones and I'm not made of money, here. I'm planning on making some bench blocks out of red oak for the single grit stones and possibly the coarse/super fine, but we'll see how lazy I feel over the next few weeks.
Still thinking about a sharpening entry...
