More TV blogging
What can I say? I spend a lot of time with the TV on in the background while I'm on my laptop, so I am exposed to it a lot.
One of the things that bothers me in most TV is the blatant redundant pounding of liberal talking points. Like I wrote before about the COP KILLER BULLETS! thing. They seem to go way out of their way to say the terms, which makes the dialogue seem kind of stilted.
I saw the new triple X movie last week with Sgt Hartley and some other kid. It would be enjoyable if I didn't understand physics, politics, guns, etc. So basically it's a mindless SFX show that probably cost 100x more than one of the better movies in the last dozen years, Equilibrium. Just for example. Not to say a big budget is inherently bad, and they really did do a good job with the flash, but at this point in my life I want more substance to my movies.
There's a new show coming out, The Closer, which is just absolutely repugnant. As far as I can see, it's based around this interrogator talking the truth out of people or some such. First of all, the character played by Kyra Sedgwick is just plain irritating. Her accent grates and she's a total bitch. Second,
the last thing you do when you're arrested is say anything other than 'I want my lawyer'!!! The entire show is based on a foolish premise! Ugh. If you don't know why I say that, it's because the vast majority of criminals talk themselves into jail.
What else is there? I dunno. I hate Law and Order and all of its offshoots because they blatantly violate civil rights and push the practice of ignoring the law in favor of what's
right. And people like that, because who wants to see a scuzzbag get off the hook based on his rights? The result is two, coming up on three generations of people who don't value civil rights at all.
Most TV is crap. The really good shows like The Pretender and Firefly get canceled while the idiotic shows like Survivor and American Idol flourish.
Oh, I'm still waiting for a cable company to allow you to buy the channels you want individually rather than in packages. Pay 75 cents a month per channel outside the basic 3 or 4 and that's it. I'd even pay 99 cents! More expensive per channel than it is today, sure, but cheaper in the long run and I'd be able to get the deluxe channels I want without paying $100 a month for cable. With the digital revolution in TV, it's not like the technology isn't there. Come on, people!
