Damn Yankees!
Well, not really. I'm a Yankees fan. I
am from New Yawk, after all, though on the other side of the state in Rawchester. That's how us Rochesterians say it, anyway. I have more of a snobbish accent, I think, than most people, however. I can't explain it. I digress (a lot).
So I wandered downstairs to check out the Yankees game and see what's going on with the family, and the Yanks are down 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st at Tampa Bay. While I was down there, Brown let in 4 more runs and the bloody inning isn't even over yet! Jebus. The Yankees are good at comebacks, but the bullpen hasn't been delivering and Bernie's out, his hitting power being subbed for by Giambi (Sanchez I think has CF) who has some problem with his forearm; a cramp, they said last night.
Cramps don't sound bad until you have one, and when you do, they suck more than anything in the world. I regularly get cramps in my hands that I have to massage out and I can't lay certain ways at night or my feet cramp really bad. Cramps suck. Sometimes my feet and calves cramp up really bad when I'm running... I'm digressing again.
On a normal night with a regular lineup and a good bullpen I'd say the Yankees have a shot, but tonight I just don't see it. Down 5 in the first inning? Good luck, guys.
It's kind of funny, but in a way I enjoy watching them lose sometimes. Or rather I think it's humorous when they have a bad inning or six and come back to still win; it makes the game interesting. I don't really enjoy games where one team gets slaughtered 1st through 9th. That's one reason I enjoyed the World Series last year, even though the *hack, spit* Red Sox won it; those were some damn good games.
Oh, as I wrote this the 1st ended. They let in another run, so they're down 6-0 right now. I might update this as the game progresses with the dramatic twists and turns (should there be any).
Update 1: Bottom of the 5th, 8-3. Well, in the third inning Tino Martinez got a home run. That made it 6-1, and hope flared. Nothing else of note happened until the bottom of the fourth when Brown let in 2 more runs, to bump it up to 8-1. Hope died. As you can see, this isn't actually a terribly dramatic game. Jeter hit in Giambi and Martinez (I think) with a triple that was humorous because the Tampa fielder ran into the wall full tilt. Whoo. I predict a 10-5 Yankees loss! I'm totally full of shit and picked those numbers relatively arbitrarily, but even the blind hog finds an acord every now and then. We'll see if I'm right.
Update 2: Top of the 7th, Giambi strikes out swinging. Posada rails a home run DEEP in right field, way up in the stands. Martinez flies out. Whoever that guy after Martinez was chopped one right to the first baseman, out. 8-4.
Update 3: Bottom of the 7th, 2 runs. I was writing the TV thing above, so I didn't really pay attention how it happened, but it's now 10-4; I think it was a triple with two guys on. Yankees just have to get 1 more and I'll win my bet to myself.
Update 4: Game over. 11-4. Yikes. I didn't really see how the last Tampa Bay run came in, so I can't comment on it. I was close to the right score, though. Hopefully the Yankees will come back tomorrow and kick some ass! If they do, I'll be sure to report it.
